  1. ‘Heads’ Back From Mastering And Release Date Set

‘Heads’ album cover by Snack Cube

I’m very excited about this one – I was very honoured to be asked to mix Snack Cube’s debut album, and even more excited now I’ve heard the tracks mastered! I spent a good amount of time towards the end of 2018 with Snack Cube at Freakyleaf HQ working on a sound for his tracks that satisfied both my needs for clarity and precision and his needs for a ‘homegrown’ and ‘organic’ vibe; we both collectively agreed that that what we came up with between us ticked all the boxes. The completed mixes were then passed over to Katie Tavini, …

  2. Studio setup at Freakyleaf Studios

It’s been a long time coming but I can finally let the cat out of the bag (or should that be the tracks out of my computer?) – my debut album “The Boy That Did Not Exist” has made it through the mix stage and is now ready for mastering. Although having started recording in 1999 (yup – a whole twenty years ago) it wasn’t until last year that I really started to make a concerted effort to tie up all the loose ends. I then spent considerable time re-recording all vocals, bouncing tracks to tape and back into my …

  3. I’m thrilled to announce that The Ben Drake Collective’s ‘Still Alive’ EP is now available for general consumption. This recording is the culmination of many hours of work between the band and myself at SoundARC Recording Studios, and features (in my opinion) some of Ben’s strongest material to date. It can be purchased and streamed through all the usual channels (including iTunes and Spotify). Below is a preview of the title track.

  4. Feckin Ejits logo

As a rule of thumb I tend not to call my clients ejits, but on this occasion I’m going to make an exception! After the success of ‘The Reunion Song‘, I was thrilled that 80’s British street punk band The Feckin Ejits wanted to record their (long time coming!) debut album ‘Off The Feckin Head’ at SoundARC Recording Studios with me behind the desk. Anyone who’s been in the studio will know that five days isn’t a great deal of time, but we worked fast, tracking twelve songs in two days, recording guitar and vocal overdubs on the third, and …

  5. Image of the plan on the final day of mastering 'A Sense of Place'

Just finished a busy four day recording and mixing stint at SoundARC, with a real mixed bag of musical projects. Friday morning saw Roy Lendor return to continue work on his début RnB/pop-tinged album. We’re just over half way through the mixing process now, and things are sounding really sweet. Friday afternoon saw Ben Drake pop in to track bass, lead guitar and keys to his soon-to-be-released single titled ‘Forever’. Got a little bit of editing to do now before we can track vocals, which are currently pencilled in to be tracked in a couple of weeks. Sunday was a …

  6. 3.25 Days at the ‘ARC

Image of a Revox A77 tape machine rewinding

As the title suggests, I’ve just spent a shade over three days working on various projects in the studio. Friday evening was spent tracking vocals to The MLP’s new songs, which are really coming along nicely. Got a bit of editing to do now before we can mix, but the tracks aren’t that far off from being released. Saturday saw recording first-time nu-metallers Dialekt lay down two tracks at SoundARC. Working fast, we managed to record and mix everything within eight hours – quite an achievement considering how good the tracks sound! Sunday saw the return of Chavassea Okeke to …
